Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair

Even though there were crazy snowstorms causing delayed flights and travel issues, the Stockholm Furniture Fair & Northern Light Fair received 38,422 visitors, only 699 fewer than last year! Paul Taylor is busy working on his blog about the Greenhouse exhibition which lovingly showcases new designers. But for now, here are 2 of my favourite pieces of furniture from the 2011 show:

Collect 2011/cabinet by A2 of Sweden

A2 Designers is a small design studio headed up by Sara Larsson who, along with her colleagues, manage to inject real fun and bold colour in all their pieces. This cabinet is definitely a favourite, it was introduced at the Stockholm Furniture Fair this year, which is where in 2008 the business first pierced the design world.

Snakkes by Daniel Benito Cortázar for Northern Lighting

Another fun product that really shone out was the Snakkes light by Oslo-based designer Daniel Benito Cortázar for Northern Lighting. Snakkes is Norwegian for ‘talk to you later’, it is a wall mounted LED board that allows the user to write messages with an impermanent marker. Even though this fun light has been around for nearly a year (available since April 2010), its shows like the Stockholm Furniture & Northern Light Fair that can really propel a product forward and really illuminate its existence to thousands of people. (Apologies for all the puns…) With that in mind I really recommend joining Architonic Facebook page and browsing through all their pics of the show. It will really help you feel like you went, as it did me!
