Who are you?

My name is Ady Shapira

Where are you?

I live and work in Moshav Avichail, Israel. “Wapa Studio” is the name of my porcelain studio.

Why do you hand make your products?

During my ceramic studies at “The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design” in Jerusalem, I chose to focus more on creating my own pieces than on designing for others. I love to create and make my own objects and I couldn’t work in any other way.

How long did it take to make?

The creamer takes around 30 minutes to build. After building it, I’m waiting for it to dry out so I can smooth it and remove any signs or marks that were left during the work. I fire the vessel first in a bisque kiln, glaze it and fire again in a high temperature kiln. I think that altogether it takes around one hour to make.

What hopes/dreams do you have for your products? Where would you like to see them?

Nowadays, I present my work at an good ceramic gallery in Israel. I would be happy to sell my work through galleries with a good reputation for ceramic over board. I would like to continue developing porcelain objects and to deepen this creative relationship.

Thanks to Ady for sharing!
