Handmade and Hot: Art Dolls by Cart Before The Horse

Skelly Sancho Skeleton, Contemporary Day of the Dead Folk Art Doll- MADE TO ORDER

Cart Before The Horse make and hand paint the most beautiful Folk Art Dolls. We especially like their Dia Del Muerta dolls like the one pictured! Here is a little interview with the owners Dylan and Jo:

Who are you?

We are husband and wife, Dylan Curry and Jo James. We are a mom-and-dad business, a two-person company of artists.

Where are you?

We are just outside of Portland, OR.

Why do you hand make your products?

Because we like to keep our hands busy. And it’s lovely to be able to work at home, making our own schedules. It’s great for family life.

How long did it take to make?

It’s hard to say because we work on several things at once, and one of us does one part (in this case the sewing and stuffing), while the other does the rest (painting).  But if I had to guess I’d say it took about 2 hours.

What hopes/dreams do you have for your products? Where would you like to see them?

We hope that they just keep getting better and better. We’d love to see them in books for kids someday.

Take a look at all their other fun items on Etsy here.
