Orla Kiely is a well recognized textiles designer famed for her bold simple graphic patterns that are themed around nature. Orla studied a masters at the Royal College of Art in London and sold her first collection of hats to Harrods! She moved onto handbags when her father noted at a show that everyone was carrying handbags but hardly anyone was wearing a hat, when bags became her focus she developed the idea of laminating fabric to make her bags harder wearing and less seasonal. Orla Kiely originally hails from Dublin and lives and works in London.
All Orla Kiely‘s work is influenced by the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. She has managed to extract all the best ingredients from these decades and combined them in her modern and vibrant yet simple designs. There is such versatility to her designs, they work well on handbags, kitchen-wear, rugs, clothing and even on cars! If you would like to know more, buy her fabulous book: Pattern by Orla Kiely.
The stem pattern is so versatile and fresh, it works on everything. I have been coveting the Evoke radio pictured above to go in my kitchen and would love an iPhone cover in the same pattern.
