We recently spotted and fell in love with Strawfoot Handmade bags. Aren’t they the perfect bag for farmers market shopping? It’s great to see a hard working tote that even ‘our’ blokes wouldn’t mind sporting around the grocery store!
Who and where are you?
My name is Garrett and I’m 27, living in Santa Cruz, California. I work for the Santa Cruz Community Farmers Market organizing and managing farmers markets. I also work part-time for an organic farm in town. Then, when time allows I’m sewing in my studio.
Why do you hand make your products?
All products that I make came from a necessity that I had. I needed a tote bag and was inspired by waxed cotton hunting jackets, army surplus bags, and grain/seed bags. So I started making them. Then I needed a camera satchel and things kind of took off on their own.
What hopes/dreams do you have for your products? Where would you like to see them?
My tote bags typically take from 2-3 hours depending on how organized I am and how many other projects are going on in my shop. Right now, I’m a little shocked at how the bags have been so well received. I’m very fortunate to have bags sold at UnionMade in San Francisco and to do a small collaboration with Seavees in Santa Barbara.
The only thing that I can hope for is that things keep selling and I am able to keep being creative.
Thank you Garrett and good luck with your lovely bags.
