Textiles Inspiration: Mark Fast

Emily Blunt in Mark Fast for the LA Times

Mark Fast is a Canadian knitwear designer originally form Winnipeg, who hit the catwalk running with his debut collection in 2009. He studied his BA and MA at Central Saint Martins and has worked in London ever since. All his collections have lovely textural elements and laddered shapes. One of his most recent collections included crochet which can sometimes be quite oldy looking but he managed to keep his sexy silhouette intact.

Mark tries to use regular sized models in his catwalk shows which is sometimes looked as being just a PR stunt, but I think it’s generally a good idea. Unfortunately I also think some of his designs are not really built for us regular ladies, which is one of the reasons he apparently does it — to prove the opposite, I will let you be the judge…

All the pieces I like are from his 2009 show and are pictured. You can see more current work here.

So granted, most of Mark Fast’s knits won’t keep you warm but they sure is pretty.
