The factory collapse in Bangladesh last month has many retailers scrambling to check the condition of factories overseas. But companies like Honest By have already done the dirty work by keeping tabs on where their clothing is made and posting all the information online for customers to see.
Bruno Pieters, creator of Honest By, wanted to create a company that offered full transparency as to where the clothes were made. On every product page, customers will find the garment’s material information, price calculation, carbon footprint and detailed manufacture details that even include the address and owner’s name of the factory in which the piece is created.
“Our mission is to offer our customers the opportunity to shop in a completely conscious way,” reads the online company’s mission statement. “Products in the Honest By store are made with consideration for all beings.”
Based in Europe, Honest By sells men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and jewelry. Clothing on the site can be filtered by selectors like vegan, organic and recycled.
“We believe Fashion is about beauty,” reads Honest By’s philosophy. “And the story behind fashion can be equally beautiful.”
