Inspiration: Before They Pass by Jimmy Nelson

Tibetan tribes

Before They Pass by Jimmy Nelson is a stunning book and collection of photographs of 31 indigenous tribes people from around the world. The project took 3 years to complete and is an homage to some of the most interesting tribes people left on our planet.

Kazakhs

The Kazakhs are the descendants of Turkic, Mongolic and Indo-Iranian tribes and Huns that populated the territory between Siberia and the Black Sea.

The website www.beforethey.com shows a number of Jimmy Nelsons photographs and tells us stories about each tribe and how they live. Fascinating stuff.

Jimmy Nelson was inspired to record the natural lives of these amazing and different tribes and to share and celebrate their story before they pass and our world forgets about theirs.

I was interested to learn that at 19, Jimmy walked the length of Tibet taking photos as he did so, when he returned to England his images won critical acclaim revealing a previously inaccessible Tibet.

There are over 500 images collected from the photographical project “Before They Pass“, my favourites are the very stunning set up and detailed portraits that revere each tribesman in full traditional garb.

Go and take a look, you won’t be disappointed to learn something new and view Jimmy Nelson‘s truly stunning imagery.

I was totally blown away.
