Eco-friendly gowns for the Oscars

The Academy Awards are around the corner on Feb. 22, and let’s be honest: The best part of the award show is to watch the red carpet beforehand. As we prep to watch Reese Witherspoon, Rosamund Pike, Marion Cotillard and other A-listers strut their stuff, here are some lovely eco-friendly gowns that we wouldn’t mind seeing them in.

Stella

Stella McCartney has not only built a brand synonymous with luxury, but she has done so while supporting ethical production – her company recently partnered with the Ethical Trading Initiative – and with a commitment to not use fur or leather in any of her designs. Which is why we always cheer to see her eco-friendly gowns on the red carpet, and her Sacha Dress, with its classic design and yet modern cut-outs, is a favourite from her current collection.

H&M eco dress

Helen Hunt made big news in 2013 when she wore an eco-friendly gown from the budget-friendly retailer H&M to the Oscars. The dress was from the company’s “Conscious Collection,” which is still going strong today and has this powder pink gown to show for it.

maiyet eco dress

Founded in 2011 by a human rights lawyer, the luxury label Maiyet works directly “with craftsmen and women in developing countries to product sustainably-sourced luxury goods,” according to Luxuo. We can definitely see this classic black dress being worn to any award show, the Academy Awards being no exception. Very Jennifer Aniston, no?
