Fall is almost upon us but there are just enough warm days remaining to throw one last summer soiree. Although sometimes overlooked, late summer is actually a great time of year to host an event. The days are still long and sunny, but the fall air is creeping in making being outdoors much more pleasant. Here are a few ideas to use when hosting an outdoor Late Summer Party.
Keep your decor seasonally neutral. You don’t want to bust out the pumpkins quite yet and it’s time to put the luau decorations back into the closet. You want to come up with a scheme that seems appropriate for the time of year which may be challenging for early September. Try one of these:
Late Summer Party Ideas
BBQ Cook-off. Invite guests to bring one item that was prepared on a grill. Let the guests vote anonymously on which dish was their favourite.
Fish Dinner. We love this crayfish dinner, or lobster and crab is always a winner, throw down some newspaper and boil then smash and dip. Great crowd pleaser.
White Party. Why should celeb’s have all the fun? Throw your very own swanky white party before Labor Day puts the kibosh on wearing this summer colour.
Fiesta. Mexican fare is a hit no matter the season.
Food and Drinks for a Late Summer Party
Food should be light, but savoury. Summer invokes lighter menus, while fall does just the opposite. Find a good balance by using fruits and veggies that are in season and focus on freshness and flavour versus quantity.
Focaccia Bread with Caramelized Onion, Tomato, and Rosemary
Grilled Salmon with Mango Salsa
Strawberry Spinach Salad
Bailey’s Chocolate Mousse
Drinks should be cold and plentiful. Offer a couple of fun mocktails, lots of water and at least two alcoholic options.
For a more casual feel, set the drinks out as a self-serve bar.
Ginger Beer Mojitos
Our very own G&J Julep
Italian Basil Lemonade
